Role: Design Reasearcher, Workshop Co-Ordinator

Clearstate is a small scale developer based in Sydney who want to do things differently. They engaged me to assist them on a small community engagement project with families who had recently bought homes off the plan in a new estate.  Before any building of new homes commenced, Clearstate threw a long lunch and mini party on the vacant site for the future residents.

My role was to connect with people and understand what their idea of 'community' was. I interacted with people through live illustration and a hand-made 'Community Notice Board' installation.

Currently 37% of children in the OOHC system are Aborginal, despite only making up 2% of the population. A core feature of this project includes building an Aboriginal co-design team of parents, young people and professionals with lived experience who will work alongside Marrin Weejali, TACSI, and MacKillop Family Services to develop, test and implement the model.

The expectation is that this model will be developed for Aboriginal people by Aboriginal people, and community gains new practice in program design to develop more effective solutions with autonomy in the future.

The community notice board was a conversation starter between future neighbours.

The idea of 'making a place a home' is dependant on the quality of relationships that form within a community.
